Heart Of Prahran

At Lovelight, we’re not just in the business of supplying window furnishings, we’ve always been about providing solutions. Our customers, whether architects, builders, or interior designers, come to us with problems to solve and we jump at the challenge, delivering custom remedies to every possible issue the right pair of curtains or motorised roller blinds can address.

Case in point, when we worked with the talented folks at Studio Tate, one of Melbourne’s premier interior design studios and proud Lovelight partner on an ever-growing list of innovative projects, on their recent York Street, Prahran assignment, they came to us with a very particular list of considerations.

Chief of these was inviting enough natural light into the property to create the kind of space that feels inviting and open, particularly for the growing family who occupy the modern, timber-cladded dwelling, which was built by Melbourne-based architecture and construction firm S&K Group.

However, the designers were also looking to use their sophisticated designs to try and get the most out of each room in the property. According to Studio Tate, a new addition to the family prompted the removal of all but two red brick walls from the interior, which made the studio’s approach all about maximising the newfound space inside the property.

In addition to the use of bold, natural materials, such as timber floorboards and marble benchtops, Lovelight curtains in a range of sheer, neutral-coloured fabrics created a sense of space as well as homeyness by inviting light when drawn open and diffusing it when closed. In the living room, timber venetians added an element of charm and elegance whenever someone happens to be sitting near the fire, as well as keeping with the theme of natural materials.

The sheer fabric used in the curtains deployed around the project came courtesy of frequent Lovelight partner Zepel Fabrics. Like Lovelight, Zepel are a Melbourne-based family business and the quality of their sheer linens gave every room in the house an instant feeling of warmth, despite the neutral tones, and helped Lovelight deliver another customised window furnishing solution for another happy client.
