Plantation Homes x Lovelight

“Window furnishings play a vital role in allowing the flow of natural light. We encourage our clients to consider how this will effect their everyday living.” -  Rachel, Interior Design Stylist for Plantation Homes.

Our strong relationships with many of Australia’s biggest builders enables us to provide their clients with window furnishing quotes right from the beginning of their design process. This month we thought we would give you a closer look inside this process by talking to an Interior Design Stylist from Plantation Homes - Rachel.

The latest display homes from Plantation Homes, have been designed with Contemporary Australian Living at their core. Rachel described how “these homes incorporate indoor/outdoor living which is the quintessential Queensland family lifestyle. And, how creating a seamless transition and natural flow between those outdoor and indoor spaces makes a home feel more coherent and well designed.”

As glazing is such an integral part of the indoor/outdoor design, the curtains, blinds and shutters that frame those windows are an important consideration. Rachel believes that “window furnishings should be considered in the early stage of planning a home design. They play a vital role in allowing the flow of natural light and clients need to consider how that effects their everyday living. Window coverings will help stop direct sunlight, protecting furniture and reducing glare during the day.”

From the outset, Plantation Homes offers their clients the option to “add a window furnishing allowance into their quote. This provides them with a ballpark figure for their window furnishings selections and lets the Interior Design Stylist know that their client is looking for a complete scheme.”

From there the next time that window furnishings are discussed is during each client’s Colour Appointment. As Rachel described the process where they start by explaining how “adding window furnishings to their internal selections will elevate a living space and create a balance between hard surfaces and softer textures. Their window furnishings selections can then link to a colour scheme they may like to incorporate with their furniture and other soft furnishings.”

As Rachel, or one the other Plantation Homes Interior design stylists, works through the home with their clients they “discuss different options including layering of curtains and blinds or shutters to allow filtered natural light in the daytime and privacy at night. We even explain the basics; like how natural light makes a space feel larger, creates warmth, and contributes to mood and wellbeing. Talking through each room we help them make careful selections to allow in as much natural light as possible.”

Plantation Homes and Lovelight share a key belief in how integral window furnishings are in creating a finished home. As Rachel put it,  “having curtains and blinds installed prior to handover allows the client to move straight in and begin the next step of styling, decorating and living in their dream home.”
