Architecture Works — Inside a Forever Home

In the high-end residential design space, where every detail contributes to creating a masterpiece, the meticulous craftsmanship of Architecture Works fits in perfectly. Led by Steven Kyzintas, this boutique practice has been sculpting spaces for over a quarter of a century, harmonizing architecture and interiors to create homes not just for today, but for lifetimes.

Steven shares, "being hands-on in all stages allows us to intricately weave the clients' visions with our expertise, ensuring the creation of spaces that are not only visually stunning but deeply personal." The latest project, Gallery House, envisioned as a forever home, demanded a forward-looking approach—anticipating future needs, accommodating extended family, and ensuring accessibility by maintaining a single-level layout without compromising the grandeur often associated with two-storey structures.

The design's strength lies in its bold lines and expansive use of floor-to-ceiling glazing, drawing the outdoors in and ensuring the landscape becomes an ever-present element of the home's aesthetic. "Our aim was to craft a timeless piece of architecture, something that stands out with its form and connection to the surrounding nature," Steven explains.

Window furnishings, often the final touch that completes a space, were approached with careful consideration. Steven, alongside the clients and their interior designer Esther Fixler, delved into the selection process, prioritising colour and functionality—especially blockout solutions for the primary bedroom. "Quality is paramount," Steven asserts, "a well-crafted curtain not only enhances privacy and sun protection but also adds a layer of elegance."

Sheers hold a special place in Steven's design philosophy, particularly in private spaces like bathrooms. They strike a delicate balance between privacy and openness, allowing for filtered views of the garden while adding a touch of romance with their gentle movement in the breeze. "Sheers transform spaces, blurring the lines between inside and out, without a sense of separation," he notes.

Among the many standout features of the home, Steven is particularly drawn to the BBQ area's floating design and the timber entry pivot door. "It's not just about a striking feature like the BBQ form; it's the journey—the way the tall ceilings of the wide hallway draw you in, past the landscaped light court, towards the vast expanses of glass that frame the natural world beyond."

In terms of trends, Steven leans towards the timeless and sustainable, favouring natural materials like linens and organic cotton. "While trends come and go, there's an enduring beauty in natural colours and materials that resonate with the space and its surroundings for years to come," he reflects.
