Crafted In Light

Profiling: Homeroom Studio’s Latest Design | Romy Dankner

Timeless, grounded, and curated with soul. These are the impressions that linger after stepping into the Montana Jewel residence, a home layered with meaning and shaped by the client’s deep connection to art, culture, and craftsmanship.

Homeroom Studio, founded by Romy Dankner, is known for designing highly refined and personal interiors - spaces that honour the nuance of materials and the stories behind them. In each project, the practice brings together a restrained elegance with a warmth that invites life to unfold organically.

In this case, the client came with an extraordinary private collection of antiques, artefacts and art from global travels. The home had to be more than just a functional residence - it needed to serve as a canvas for storytelling, a space that would reflect their worldview and values.

The design response was tactile and deeply considered. Warm timber veneers, leathered stone rich with rusty veining, and aged bronze elements were chosen not just for their beauty, but for their honesty. The interiors blend contemporary forms with timeworn and handcrafted pieces to create a home that feels lived-in, grounded and soulful.

Window furnishings played a central role in capturing this atmosphere. Honey-toned sheer curtains were selected to soften the bronzed steel-framed windows, diffusing the light into a warm, golden glow. Every detail, including how the fabric interacted with the light, was aligned to the mood of the home. It was not about trend, but tone.

For Homeroom, window furnishings are never a footnote. Texture, transparency and architectural context are all weighed up carefully, alongside the functional needs of daily life. In this home, the sheers not only echo the material palette but elevate it, offering a sensory layer that shifts with the day.

A signature feature of the home is the striking timber pivot door, complete with a sculptural bronze handle - an immediate expression of the home’s artisanal language. Another highlight is the custom-designed dining table, crafted to host and anchor, reflecting the client’s desire for a space that’s both intimate and generous.

While emerging trends point to bold colours, feature hems, and open-weave textures, Romy prefers to take a more intuitive path. One that resists passing fashions in favour of something slower, steadier, and more anchored in place.

The result is a residence that speaks volumes, but does so quietly and honestly. A home where design, light and storytelling coalesce, creating a space that doesn’t just showcase a collection, but becomes one.
