Designed To Feel

“I make sure the window treatments are as considered as the furniture itself. Window treatments are the perfect opportunity to add warmth and personality.” That simple belief sits at the heart of Tali Roth’s approach to interiors, where every choice is considered, intentional, and designed to elevate how a space feels to live in.

Tali has run Tali Roth Designs for over a decade, with a career shaped by time spent in New York City, where she still works with residential clients today. While the bulk of her projects are homes, her portfolio also spans high-end retail and commercial spaces. Tali’s work covers everything from décor-only commissions, including furniture, lighting, paint and soft furnishings, through to the projects she loves most, those with built elements like joinery, kitchens and bathrooms, where the design is embedded into the bones of a home.

Her business began the way many great practices do, through momentum and demand. “It just happened organically,” Tali says. “I didn’t really work for anyone else. I was always operating as part of a design agency as an independent contractor so it made sense.” That independence shows in the confidence of her interiors. They feel personal, layered, and unmistakably her.

When asked about recent favourites, Tali’s answer is refreshingly honest. “I loved working on my own home. It was extremely rewarding.” She also calls out Grace Brighton, a retail store she designed, describing it as “so bespoke, highly thoughtful and a true expression of my tastes.” That balance of thoughtfulness and signature style continues through her residential work too, especially in projects like Victoria House and Terrazzo Palazzo.

“Victoria House I love it all,” she says. “It’s all so soft, timeless and chic.” The hero space, she adds, is a tie between the pink library or sitting room and the kitchen. Terrazzo Palazzo, her family home, holds equal affection. “I love the main open plan kitchen, dining, living as it’s so functional, bright and warm and always feels calm.” And then there are the curtains, a detail she speaks about with real conviction. “I love the curtains everywhere in this project… it really elevated our home. Particularly the risk we took doing deep purple velvet curtains in the primary bedroom.”

That willingness to take a risk, and the understanding of when to hold back, is exactly what makes Tali’s approach to window furnishings feel so modern. “There are certainly moments that you want them to be quiet and hide away,” she explains, “but in the interiors I like to create I make sure the window treatments are as considered as the furniture itself.” Her process starts with the style of the home, contemporary or heritage, to establish the right treatment, then moves into colour, whether neutral or not, and finally the finishing touches. “I like to add some trims occasionally to ensure they look bespoke and high-end and reflect the rest of the home.”

It’s also why Lovelight has become a go-to partner across many of her spaces. “They are wonderful to work with and we can be as standard or bespoke as we like,” Tali says. “They have great customer service.” For designers who care about the last five percent, that mix of flexibility and reliability matters.

Looking ahead, Tali’s focus is split between commercial projects in Melbourne and residential work in New York, alongside product design and new collaborations. It’s a natural evolution for a designer whose work is already defined by strong point of view and detail-driven execution.

And when it comes to the trends shaping interiors right now, Tali is clear on what’s back. “Key trends include colour, quiet luxury, red and purple (sorry if you were traumatised by the early 90’s), a hint of rough, rustic.” It’s a reminder that the most memorable interiors are rarely the safest ones. They are the ones that feel lived in, personal, and brave enough to make a statement, sometimes with nothing more than a beautifully chosen curtain.
